I can never resist the jewellery made by House of Colour, there is always at least one item I can't resist and I can usually drop hints to my husband for other items I would like for Christmas gifts. One lady (Toffee Princess) makes Scottish confectionery which is fabulous, another couple of ladies (Well Preserved) produce tremendous homemade preserves which are beautifully presented in jars with colourful labels that I just love, and recently they have been selling delicious bread produced by another artisan. I have bought everything from dog biscuits to jewellery. Each artisan piece of equipment produces different goods of different qualities, depending on the quality of the ingredients. Not your usual Dubai mass market wares, but a varied selection of handmade products, and what a range of items they make. Artisan products, or artisan goods, are items that are produced using artisan equipment by processing raw crops, foraged items, or animal products. It's a great place to escape the heat for a few hours or to dodge the masses in the likes of Dubai Mall, especially when you have relatives over. And the standard is usually way beyond your village fete.ĪrtE draws some very talented vendors and artisans, some of whom do this for a living, I'm told, selling everything from kids cooking aprons, dog snacks and cigar box guitars, to jewelry, aromatherapy and unique paintings of the emirates. Times Square Mall doesn't quite carry the same clout as Mall of The Emirates - just along Sheikh Zayed Road - but twice a month (2nd and 4th Friday of each month) the shopping centre bursts into life with dozens of stalls featuring goods, cloths, even jams and pickles that are handmade in the UAE. ONE thing Dubai isn't short of is shopping opportunities, but this regular gathering of crafts people, arty types and more is a must for expats and tourists seeking something away from the mainstream malls.
